The IIHR in Colombia

The IIHR office in Colombia was established in 2009 to promote the institutional mandate in that country and, in this regard, it conducts human rights training in collaboration with different public and academic organizations and civil society, such as:

  • Ministry of Defense
  • National Police
  • Universidad Libre
  • Movement of Victims of State Crimes
  • Unit for Comprehensive Attention and Reparation of Victims
  • Office of the Mayor of Bogotá, and  
  • Office of the Ombudsman.

Coordinators and team

The IIHR office in Colombia is represented and directed by Juan Navarrete, a Venezuelan lawyer with extensive experience in the protection and promotion of human rights. The team includes the Office Manager, Adriana Piquero, a Colombian lawyer and political scientist, Carlos Mendieta, academic advisor, anthropologist and specialist in human rights; and experts for each project.
