San José, Costa Rica. Jorge Padilla, Coordinator of the Center of Resources and Studies for Education in Human Rights (CREEDH/IIHR) met with Obiora C.Okafor, Independent expert on human rights and international solidarity of the United Nations.
The visit focused on topics such as the international cooperation for development, the challenges of the Inter-American System for the Protection of Human Rights and the relationship of the Institute with the Republic of Costa Rica, according to Mr. Padilla.
For his part, while praising the multilateralism of Costa Rica, Mr. Okafor pointed out the need to make advances in equality and non-discriminatory practices. Mr. Okafor’s stated that “Although Costa Rica had made significant economic progress in recent decades, the unequal distribution of income in the country has worsened appreciably.” He will present a report with his recommendations to the UN Human Rights Council in June 2023.
