UNIORE Virtual Advance Mission observes electoral process in Peru

The first meeting of the Virtual Advance Mission of the Inter-American Union of Electoral Bodies (UNIORE) with the National Jury of Elections of Peru (JNE), the purpose of which was to observe preparations for the second round of the June 6 presidential election, was held May 7.  

Participating in the activity were Jorge Salas (JNE President), Marcos Cruz (President of the  Superior Electoral Tribunal of the Dominican Republic and Interim President of UNIORE), María Antonieta Delgado (Director of Cooperation and International Affairs of JNE), Alberto Guevara and Fernanda Rodríguez (Electoral Tribunal of the Judiciary of the Federation of Mexico); Magistrates Yara Campo (Electoral Tribunal of Panama) and Zetty Bou (Alternate of the Supreme Electoral Tribunal of Costa Rica), Rubén Meléndez (Supreme Electoral Tribunal of El Salvador) and Gabriel Aguilera (Supreme Electoral Tribunal of Guatemala).

Piero Corvetto, Head of the National Office of Electoral Processes, joined the second meeting, held May 10. The following day, the Mission met with Edwin Levano, a representative of the Fuerza Popular party.The activity concluded with an exchange with Fernando Tuesta Soldevilla, an expert in elections.

Representing the UNIORE Executive Secretariat, held by the Center for Electoral Promotion and Assistance (IIDH/CAPEL), were José Thompson (Director), Sofía Vincenzi (Coordinator) and Tasheena Obando and Andrea Tercero (international advisors).
