San José, Costa Rica. On August 20, 2021, the Forum on Governance and Climatic Rights was constituted in Costa Rica by 12 organizations of civil society and two individuals. The Forum, the aim of which is to generate an informed dialogue on the climate in order to present proposals of public impact on the corresponding State agencies, is the result of a process headed by the Inter-American Institute of Human Rights (IIHR) and Costa Rica Integra, a chapter of Transparency International, within the framework of the Governance and Climate Change of that group, supported by the IIHR.
The founding organizations and individuals are La Ruta del Clima, Mission 2 Degrees, ARTES-JUSTECO, Tropical Scientific Center, Camino Verde Association (ASOPROCAVE), Fridays For Future Costa Rica, Costa Rican Network of Private Natural Reserves, PEDAL: Mobility, Innovation and Human Rights, Costa Rica Íntegra, IIHR, Alejandra Granados and Pascal Girot.
Larissa Segura and Evelyn Fernández, staff official and project assistant, respectively, represented the IIHR.
The Forum will continue its work in the coming weeks with a review of its organizing document and the appointment of a technical secretariat that will be responsible to form the agendas and organizational and logistical bases for its financing and governance. The Forum welcomes individuals, businesses and organizations of civil society to join this effort on the environment and climate change.
