IIHR–CAPEL participated in the launching of the Latin American and Caribbean Observatory on the Political and Electoral Rights of Trans Persons, organized by the Electoral Observation Mission, the Action and Support Group of Trans Persons and Caribe Afirmativo, which was held on August 23-24, 2022 in Colombia.
During the first day, there was a presentation of the “Analysis of standards and practices on the right to vote of trans persons: Costa Rica, Guatemala, Honduras and Panama,” in which participated the IIHR Executive Director, Joseph Thompson and Pamela San Martín, former Advisor to the National Electoral Institute of Mexico and international consultant, who led the research with the collaboration of Oscar Danilo Sepúlveda Rodríguez.
On the second day, there was a panel on “Challenges and obstacles regarding the right to vote of trans persons in Latin America and the Caribbean,” in which participated Mr. Thompson; Ari Vega, Co–Secretary of Ilga Lac; Maricarmen Plata, Secretariat of the Area of Access to Rights and Equity of the Organization of American States.
