San José, Costa Rica and Montevideo, Uruguay. In October 2019, the 74th UN General Assembly proclaimed September 28 as the International Day for Universal Access to Information (IDUAI). This decision reinforced that taken in 2015 by the General Conference of UNESCO that adopted Resolution 38 C/57, which defined that date as International Day of Access to Information.
The IIHR recalls that access to public information is a human right that has been recognized as such by the Inter-American Court of Human Rights for the past two decades. It is a right that is basic for the democracies of the region to function well.
The Institute joins in the celebration by participating in the different events to which it has been invited.
