UNIORE Mission Observes General Elections in Ecuador

Quito, Ecuador. An Inter-American Union of Electoral Bodies (UNIORE) mission visited Ecuador to observe the elections that were held on February 7, 2021. The mission, headed by Román Jáquez, President of the Central Electoral Board of the Dominican Republic, was comprised of Magistrates and staff of the electoral bodies of Chile, Colombia, Dominican Republic and Guatemala.  They were joined by a team of the UNIORE Executive Secretariat, the Center for Electoral Prpmotion and Assistance (IIHR/CAPEL).

On February 4, the Head of Mission and the President of the National Electoral Council of Ecuador, Diana Atamaint, signed a Memorandum of Understanding between the National Electoral Council (CNE) and the Inter-American Union of Electoral Bodies (UNIORE) regarding the Procedure for Observing the General Elections of 2021.

That same day, the members of the mission visited the Center charged with designing and distributing the ballots, participated in academic activities, such as a training given by the National Office of Electoral Training, and a roundtable on “Intercultural Aspects of Electoral Observations” and, finally, an introduction to the Program on the Electoral Observation “General Elections 2021.”
