San José, Costa Rica. The virtual course on “Developing Capacities for the Effective Participation of Women in Latin America,” co-organized by the Center for Electoral Promotion and Assistance (IIHR/CAPEL) and UN Women, closed on October 28, 2020.
At the closing ceremony, María Noel Vaeza (Regional Director of UN Women for the Americas and the Caribbean) and José Thompson (IIHR Executive Director) thanked the participants who successfully completed the second edition of the course. Also speaking at the event was the course’s tutor, Dayana Bernal. Among the participants who exchanged experiences were Yaritza Espinosa (staff member of the Electoral Tribunal of Panama), Karen Arlin Rivas (Under-Secretary for Evaluation of the Secretariat of Students of the Mexican Association of Political Sciences) and Michael Juan Ramón Vega (activist for the rights of sexually diverse persons in Bolivia). Ms. Vaeza and Mr. Thompson closed the activity.
The 69 participants were from Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Puerto Rico, Uruguay and Venezuela, as well as from France, Italy and Spain.
