IIHR President elected to the UN International Law Commission

San José, Costa Rica. Claudio Grossman, President of the IIHR Board of Directors will be one of the 34 members of the International Law Commission. His term will run from 2017 to 2021. He received the vote of 146 States, which was the second highest total.

Mr. Grossman, Chilean, is Professor of Law and International Humanitarian Law and Dean Emeritus of the Washington College of Law of American University. Elected in 2003 to the UN Committee against Torture, he was the Chair from 2008 to 2015 and he also headed the Chairpersons of UN Human Rights Treaty Bodies. He was also a member of the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights from 1993 to 2001. Prof. Grossman is the author of numerous articles and books on international law, human rights and the law of international organizations and has received many recognitions for his contributions to the cause of human rights in the world.

The IIHR congratulates Prof. Grossman on his election to the ILC where he will be able to continue to contribute to the promotion and protection of human rights.
