Claudio Grossman, IIHR President, receives ASIL award

San José, Costa Rica. On June 26, 2020, Professor and Dean Emeritus of the Washington College of Law, Claudio Grossman, President of the IIHR Board of Directors, was awarded the Goler T. Butcher Medal for 2020 in recognition of his contributions to the development and achievements of the international law of human rights. The award was given by the American Society of International Law (ASIL) during its annual meeting, which took place virtually on June 26 and 27 of this year.  

Professor Grossman was Dean of the Washington College of Law of American University in Washington, D.C. (1995-2016); member of the Inter-American Commision on Human Rights (IACHR) (1993-2001), over which he presided (1996-1997), was First Vice-President (1995-1996 and 2000-2001) and Second Vice-President (1999-2000). He was also a member of the UN Committee against Torture (2008-2015), of which he was Vice President (2003-2008) and President (2008-2015). He has been a member of the UN International Law Commission since 2017.
