Asunción, Paraguay. During the period April 27-29, 2017, the IIHR Representative for South America, Soledad García Muñoz, was in charge of the module Human Rights from the Perspective of Gender and Diversities, which featured Silvia López Safi, head of the Secretariat of Gender of the Supreme Court of Justice (CSJ). This module was part of the second International Master’s Program in Human Rights with Emphasis on Control of Conventionality, organized by the Department of Human Rights of the CSJ and Columbia University as part of their agreement of cooperation, which gave rise to the “Education in Human Rights” project. The objective is to”integrate a focus on human rights in the studies on gender, feminism and women (and provide) a tool to advance on the path to equality” and protection. The program alludes to the interrelationship between feminist and gender studies and their legal standing in order that overcoming inequality between women and men be taken into account in higher-level teaching and research on human rights, the integral understanding of which requires the incorporation of the theories of gender, feminism and the rights of women.

The program is directed primarily to lawyers and judiciary employees. A study plan was drawn up, with the technical assistance of the IIHR, that would systematize the content and activities of the educational experience according to the characteristics of the participants, taking into account the jurisprudence of the Inter-American Court of Human Rights.
