Buenos Aires, Argentina. The IIHR, represented by Soledad García Muñoz, Coordinator of its Regional Office for South America, participated in the activities of the 162nd Session of the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR), held May 22-26, 2017.
The Institute co-sponsored a free seminar on five areas of the IACHR’s work: extractive industries and human rights; human rights defenders in the Americas; criminalization and integral protection; respect for and guarantees of the rights of women: access to justice; violence against LGBTI persons and infant intersex, and crimes against humanity: memory, truth and justice in the Southern Cone.
Ms. García Muñoz participated on the third panel of the second day of the seminar entitled “Respect for and guarantees of the rights of women: access to justice,” in which she commented on the IACHR report Juridical standards: equality of gender and the rights of women. Others participating on the panel, which was moderated by Victor Abramovich, of the National University of Lanús and the University of Buenos Aires, were Commissioner Margarette Macaulay and Alejandra Mangano, of the Office of Human Trafficking and Exploitation.
