Signing of memorandum of understanding between CNE and UNIORE

Quito, Ecuador. As part of the observation mission of the Inter-American Union of Electoral Bodies to the general elections and referendum held on February 19, a memorandum of understanding was ratified between UNIORE and the National Electoral Council of Ecuador (CNE). The memorandum was agreed to in January during the first visit of the mission..

On November 22, 2016, the CNE officially invited UNIORE to observe the coming elections with the idea of maintaining and preserving the diversity of the international observers. 

Present at the meeting were María Elena Wapenka, President of UNIORE; Juan Pablo Pozo, President of CNE; and José Thompson, Director of IIHR/CAPEL. They were accompained by Nubia Villacís, Ana Marcela Paredes and Mauricio Tayupanta, Vice President and advisors of the CNE, respectively, and alternate judge Luz Haro.
