IIHR/CAPEL evaluates advances and regressions in democracy in Latin America

San José, Costa Rica. Leading experts from various countries of the region met October 30 and 31, 2019 to evaluate the advances and regressions in democracy in Latin America. 


The agenda of the meeting included, among others, matters relating to the rule of law, inequality, the different forms of violence and the concept of democrary. A product of the activity will be an analysis of the regional situation from the perspective of human rights, based on the criteria, opinions and positions presented.


The event –organized by the Center for Electoral Promotion and Assistance (IIHR/CAPEL)- was presided by its Director, José Thompson. He was joined by Line Bareiro, member of the IIHR General Assembly; Sofía Vincenzi; Coordinator of CAPEL, and Salvador Romero Ballivián, who moderated the debates.
