Fortaleza, Ceará, Brazil. The fourth Curso Brasileiro Interdisciplinar em Direitos Humanos was held August 3-14. Speaking at the opening ceremony were José Thompson, IIHR Executive Director; César Barros Leal, President of the Instituto Brasileiro de Direitos Humanos; and Soledad García Muñoz, coordinator of the IIHR Regional Office for South America. They were joined, among others, by Manuel Ventura Robles and Antônio Cançado Trindade, judges of the Inter-American Court of Human Rights and the International Court of Justice, respectively.

The core topic was O Respeito à Dignidade da Pessoa Humana. A prominent group of specialists were invited to lecture, which guaranteed a high academic standard for the Course, whose methodology combined lectures, panels, case studies, and workshops. The students came from different parts of Brazil and neighboring countries.

The activity was organized by the IIHR Office for South America, UNDP, the Council of Amnesty International, the Government of Brazil and its Ministry of Justice.
