San José, The IX Specialized Course for Officials on the Use of the Inter-American System of Human Rights Protection began its activities at the IIHR Inter-American Classroom of Human Rights on October 10, 2016. Its was inaugurated by the IIHR Executive Director, José Thompson, accompanied by the Coordinator of Studies and Resources Center for Human Rights Education, Jorge Padilla; and Academic Assistant, Natalia Arce.
There opening lectures “Human Rights and International Law Interaction”, “Protection Bodies of the IASHR: The IACHR,” and “Protection Bodies of the IASHR: The Inter-American Court,” were presented by the Executive Director, Marta Tavares, an IACHR staff attorney, and Mariana Clemente, a Court staff attorney, respectively.
Attending the Course are 62 persons who work in foreign and other ministries, the judiciary, the offices of the attorney general, the ombudsman and prosecutors and universities from the following countries of the region: Argentina, Bolivia, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, and Venezuela.
In addition to the lectures given by specialists, a case study and other activities, the Course will include a visit to the Inter-American Court.
