The IIHR Regional Office for South America signs an agreement with the National Human Rights Institution and the Human Rights Ombudsman of Uruguay

Montevideo, Uruguay. On June 14, 2016, the IIHR delegation for the Mercosur region signed an agreement of cooperation with the National Human Rights Institution and the Human Rights Ombudsman of Uruguay (INDDHH), represented by Soledad García and Juan Faroppa, respectively. This agreement formalized the inter-institutuonal relationship and strengthened the position of the IIHR in Uruguay .

The objective of this agreement is for joint actions in human rights education, promotion and dissemination and collaboration in the formulation of public policies in the field of human rights. The institutions will coordinate in the areas of sensibilization, promotion of dialogue with civil society and public and private institutions to achieve the objective, hold educational activities and form a permanent committee of consultation .

Also present at the signing was the full membership of the Board of Directors of INDDHH and honored guests, María Elena Martínez, a member of the IIHR General Assembly, and Belela Herrera, a well-known human rights activist.
