Panama City. During the second week of February, the Inter-American Union of Electoral Bodies (UNIORE), at the invitation of the Electoral Tribunal of Panama, carried out an advanced technical mission with respect to the general elections to be held May 5, 2019. The meetings with the electoral authorities of the country dealt with preparations for the coming elections, electoral reforms, primary elections and their challenges and implications.
The mission was comprised of Carmen Imbert Brugal, of the Central Electoral Board of the Dominican Republic; Ciro Murayama Rendón, advisor to the National Electoral Institute (INE) of Mexico; Wilfredo Penco, Vice President of the Electoral Court of Uruguay; Juan Carlos Galindo Vácha, Head of the National Registry of Colombia; Manuel Carrillo Poblano, Coordinator of International Affairs of INE, and Sofía Vicenzi, Coordinator of Operations of the Center for Electoral Promotion and Assistance (IIHR/CAPEL).
