UNIORE mission observes balloting in Guatemala

Guatemala City. A mission of the Inter-American Union of Electoral Bodies (UNIORE) visited Guatemala to observe the second round of the presidential election that was held August 11. The visit made at the invitation of the Supreme Electoral Tribunal of Guatemala (TSE).


As is customary, the mission first received information and analysis on the situation. On elelction day, the members visited polling places in different locations, where they observed the balloting from the opening to the closing of the polls. They later met to evaluate what they had observed and to make the recommendations that will be presented in their report to  the TSE.


The mission was headed by Magistrate Carmen Imbert Brugal, of the Cental Electoral Board of the Dominican Republic.


The UNIORE Executive Secretariat, the Center for Electoral Promotion and Assistance (IIHR/CAPEL), was represented by IIHR Executive Director, José Thompson, the Coordinator of CAPEL, Sofía Vincenzi, and CAPEL staff member, Andrea Tercero.
