UNIORE mission observes local elections in Ecuador

Quito, Ecuador. A mission of the Inter-American Union of Electoral Bodies (UNIORE) observed local elections in Ecuador, held Sunday, March 24, 2019, in which “local dignitaries and members of the Council of Civic Participation and Social Control” were elected, according to the Web page of the National Electoral Council (CNE).


The 25 member UNIORE delegation, which included representatives of its Executive Secretariat, the Center for Electoral Promotion and Assistance (IIDH/CAPEL), observed the election in eight provinces. The following day, the mission presented its preliminary report to the CNE, which had requested the visit.

Representing IIHR/CAPEL were its Director José Thompson, its Coordinator of Operations, Sofía Vincenzi, and international expert, Tasheena Obando.
