Panama City. May 5, 2019 was election day in Panama. During its stay, a mission of the Inter-American Union of Electoral Bodies (UNIORE), comprised of 54 representatives of its members, met with electoral authorities and the candidates and were apprised of different matters relating to the elections.
The mission presented a report on the advanced missions that took place in February and April of this year. Appearing on the podium are José Thompson; Tribunal Magistrates Alfredo Juncá, Heriberto Araúz, President, and Eduardo Valdés; Juan Carlos Galindo, Head of the National Registry of Colombia, and Manuel Carrillo,Coordinator of International Affairs of the National Electoral Institute of Mexico.
After visiting various pollling places, the mission, headed by Mr. Galindo, drafted a preliminary report with recomendations that would lead to “perfecting the system” as stated by Mr. Thompson, Executive Director of the Center for Electoral Promotion and Assistance (IIHR/CAPEL), the Executive Secretariat of UNIORE. The CAPEL delegation also lincluded Sofía Vincenzi, Coordinator of Operations and staff members Andrea Tercero, Mónica Barrantes and Tasheena Obando.
