Quito, Ecuador. A mission of the Inter-American Union of Electoral Bodies (UNIORE) observed a third simulated election, held on February 5 and overseen by the National Electoral Council of Ecuador (CNE). This activity, a preliminary to the general elections and the referendum on fiscal paradises that will be held on Sunday, February 19, was preceded by simulations on January 8 and 22.
According to the CNE, this effort tested 100% of the technology for the transmittal of voting data and has led to the adoption of the necessary measures to avoid problems on election day. The system is comprised of 1,800 transmittal posts in the 24 provinces and the three polling places located in Ecuadorian consulates.
The UNIORE advanced mission, which has witnessed all three simulations, also participated in informative workshops given by the CNE. The IIHR/CAPEL, represented by Sofía Vincenzi, participated in its role of Executive Secretariat of this regional network of electoral bodies.
