Bogotá, Colombia. On June 17, 2018, a mission of the Inter-American Union of Electoral Bodies (UNIORE) observed the second round of the presidential election of Colombia, which resulted in the election of iván Dugue.
The previous day, members of the mission attended an academic workshop and on election day the mission was divided into groups that visited polling placs in the capital and surrounding areas in order to follow the voting process from its beginning until the counting of the votes and the transmission of the results. The mission concluded its work with an evaluation in which it formulated recommendations to the electoral bodies of Colombia.
The Association of Women Magistrates of the Americas (AMEA) actively participed in the mission and observed the election with special attention to matters of interest to their gender.
The mission, headed by the President of the Central Electoral Board of the Dominican Republic, Julio César Castaños Guzmán, was comprised of 33 delegates of electoral bodies of different countries of the region. The Center for Electoral Promotion and Assistance (IIHR/CAPEL), Executive Secretariat of UNIORE and AMEA, was represented by its Coordinator of Operations, Sofía Vincenzi, and specialists Tasheena Obando and Evelyn Fernández.
