IIHR Regional Office achieves closer ties with organizations of civil society in Uruguay

Montevideo, Uruguay. As part of its permanent contact with human rights NGOs in the region, on February 9 the IIHR Regional Office for South America was host to representatives of Idas y Vueltas, an NGO that aids immigrants.

This organization has a broad-based team of professionals (lawyers, social workers, psychologists, economists, etc.) who support and inform on the rights and duties of immigrants. Idas y Vueltas has a long history of collaboration and dialogue with the Regional Office.


In addition, at the beginning of February, the Regional Office Coordinator, Soledad García Muñoz, met with the Director of the Yoga y Valores en Cárceles program, Pamela Martínez, which the Espacio Ombijam, together with the IIHR, attempts, through the practice of yoga, to achieve its main objectives of the prevention, rehabilitation and social reinsertion of persons deprived of their liberty. Ms. García also met with the President of the Association of Families and Victims of Crimes (ASFAVIDE), Graciela Barrera de Novo, and Cecilia Galusso, a lawyer of the organization, regarding various matters concerning public security and human rights and identified actions of common interest, especially the Yoga y Valores en Cárceles program. ASFAVIDE works in crime prevention, access to justice and human rights.
