“Carmen Lyra” National Education and Human Rights Award

San José, Costa Rica. In collaboration with the IIHR, the Ministry of Public Education of Costa Rica (MEP) has created the “Carmen Lyra” National Education and Human Rights Award for the teacher who stands out for his/her contributions to the promotion and defense of education and human rights.


The biennial prize, which is to be awarded jointly by the MEP, the Institute and the National Council of Rectors (CONARE), consists of a trophy and a year-long sabbatical during which the teacher will learn more about the subject and share his/her experiences in the area. The awardee will have the support of the IIHR and the MEP, the latter of which will also provide the opportunity for the awardee to publish a study on the theme.


The signing of the executive decree by President Luis Guillermo Solís that established the award was witnessed by José Thompson, IIHR Executive Director, Marcelo Prieto, President of CONARE, and Sonia Marta Mora, Minister of Education.
