Asunción, Paraguay. A mission of the Inter-American Union of Electoral Bodies (UNIORE) visited Paraguay during the period December 14-18, 2017. The mission was comprised of delegations from Argentina, Bolivia, Colombia, Dominican Republic, Mexico, Nicaragua, Peru and Uruguay, which were joined by staff of its Executive Secretariat, the Center for Electoral Promotion and Assistance (IIHR/CAPEL).
The agenda included a meeting with the members of the Superior Tribunal of Electoral Justice in order to go over details about the observation of the primary elections, which were later amplified by a panel of the directors of electoral and IT resources and representatives of parties and political movements. The mission also met with candidates from the Asociación Nacional Republicana and the Partido Liberal Radical Auténtico and attended a round table featuring various speakers from Paraguay.
On election day, December 17, the group divided up in order to visit polling places in Asunción, Encarnación, Ciudad del Este and Villa Rica to observe the election from the opening of the voting to the counting of the ballot boxes. The mission also visited the Center of the Transmittal of the Preliminary Results. Finally, the group met to make an evaluation of the process.
