Bogotá, Colombia. The First Regional Meeting of Legal Clinics and Civil Society Organizations of the Americas Network for Refugee Legal Aid (ANRLA) was held May 29-31, 2019. Some 50 representatives of 38 organizations that work in 18 countries of the hemisphere attended, in addition to the IIHR representative in Colombia, Juan Navarrete, and UNHCR officials. The purpose of the meeting was to exchange information and to train the organizations on the principles and criteria to protect refugees and internally displaced persons and on national and international strategic litigation. The “Guide of regional good practices” in this field was presented during the event.
ANRLA, coordinated by José Pablo Vega, was created in 2018 by the UNHCR and the IIHR with the idea of supporting and facilitating “the development, articulation and joint action of organizations dedicated to promoting and defending effective access to rights for asylum-seekers, refugees, internally displaced persons or returnees as well as other persons benefiting from a humanitarian and/or complementary protection alternative in the Americas.”
