San José, Costa Rica. The Inter-American Institute of Human Rights is pleased to announce the publication of the "Protocol of access to inter-cultural criminal justice and inter-institutional coordination – Guatemala." Based on a human rights perspective and the differential in victims, the new instrument is for officials of the justice system of Guatemala and has the objective of directing their attention to indigenous peoples and providing inter-institutional coordination (Judiciary, Institute of Public Criminal Defense, Public Ministry and National Civil Police) with a global vision.
The promotion of accessible justice and of recognizing and valuing diversities is one of IIHR’s priorities. With the publication of the Protocol, the IIHR hopes to contribute to the removal of structural obstacles faced by the indigenous peoples in Guatemala, who are in a special situation of vulnerability. It is part of the process of establishing a fair and democratic social order in the countries of the region.
