La Paz, Lower California, Mexico. A Meeting of Electoral Magistrates was held June 9-11 with the theme of “Participation and Leadership towards Electoral Justice with Equality of Rights.” Among the participants was Sofía Vincenzi, Coordinator of Operations of the Center for Electoral Promotion and Assistance (IIDH/CAPEL), which is the Executive Secretariat of the Inter-American Union of Electoral Bodies (UNIORE) and the different associations of regional electoral bodies,
The event, inaugurated by Mónica Soto Fregoso, Magistrate of the Electoral Tribunal of the Judiciary of the Federation of Mexico (TEPJF), began with a lecture on “Sisterhood: towards a new feminine culture” by Marcela Lagarde, which was followed by the first panel on “Women in Politics in Mexico. Shared Histories.”
Ms. Vincenzi was a member of the second panel, which analyzed the “Achievements and Obstacles to Imparting Electoral Justice Internationally,” and was joined by María Elena Wapenka, Minister of the Superior Tribunal of Electoral Justice of Paraguay; and the former President of the National Electoral Council of Colombia, Yolima Carrillo Pérez. Moderating the panel was Betsabé Dulcinea Apodaca Ruiz, President of the Electoral Tribunal of the State of Lower California. Two workshops were held on June 11: “Gender Equality and Non-Discrimination with respect to Women” and “Leadership and Empowerment to Judge with regard to Gender.”
The participants were comprised of electoral magistrates of the Superior, Regional and Specialized Chambers of the TEPJF and similar bodies of the country.
