XIV annual edition of the AUSJAL-IIHR human rights course inaugurated

During the period April 23-27, 2016, universities belonging the AUSJAL (Association of Universities Entrusted to the Society of Jesus in Latin America) network opened the on-site portion of a new edition of the AUSJAL-IIHR human rights diploma course. The 2016 class of 211 persons represents diverse professions and a majority of the participating countries plus other hemispheric and European countries. The three main themes of the course –Access to Justice, Citizen Participation and Human Rights and Education in Human Rights – have been up-dated during the past two years .

After a week of introduction to the technological platform to be used, May 17 marked the beginning of the virtual part of the course that will extend until the end of November. The first week of December will be dedicated to on-site studies that will end the course .

With the strategic support of AUSJAL and the IIHR, these diplomas are jointly certified by ten universities of the AUSJAL network: Católica (Uruguay), Iberoamericana (Mexico City and Puebla), Rafael Landívar (Guatemala), Pontificia Universidad Javeriana (Bogotá, Colombia), Católica Andrés Bello (Caracas, Venezuela), Instituto Filosófico Pedro Francisco Bonó (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic), Antonio Ruiz de Montoya (Lima, Peru), Alberto Hurtado (Santiago, Chile) and the Instituto Tecnológico y de Estudios Superiores de Occidente (ITESO) (Guadalajara, Mexico). The teams in the above universities, comprised of coordinators, tutors and support personnel, are dedicated to contributing to improve the situation of human rights in the region ”.

For more than a decade, this inter-university program has trained students in Latin America and the Caribbean in the promotion and protection of human rights in their areas of interest. The community of graduates, which grows from year to year, is prepared to have an “impact on society with the changes ”.

At the end of July, there will be a second edition on the theme of Security and Human Rights. Applications will be received until July 8 .
