Barranquilla, Colombia. The on-site phase of the “Diploma Course on the Inter-American System for the Protection of Human Rights” took place September 3-7, 2018. It was a joint collaboration between the IIHR and the Universidad del Atlántico that had as its general objective to “broaden the knowledge of students and lawyers on the jurisprudential progress achieved on important issues as an accessible tool, whether in the area of litigation or that of specialization.”

The six-week virtual phase of the Course used the platform of the IIHR Inter-American Virtual Classroom. The Course, in which 51 law students of the Universidad participated, began on July 17 with an inaugural lecture, at which Juan Navarrete and Adriana Piquero represented the Institute.

The on-site week consisted of lectures by specialists in the area, workshops and a case study. Among the lecturers were Humberto Sierra Porto, current judge and former President of the Inter-American Court of Human Rights, and José Thompson, IIHR Executive Director. The IIHR was also represented by Jorge Padilla, Coordinator of Education, and Adriana Piquero, of the IIHR Office in Colombia.
