La Plata, Argentina. Among the different and usual contributions of IIHR to universities in the region, the Education and Human Rights Seminar is given special recognition due to its seniority and impact. This seminar is part of the curriculum of the Master’s degree program on Human Rights of the Faculty of Law and Social Sciences of the Universidad Nacional de La Plata in Argentina. Established in 2004, this is one of the first multidisciplinary post-graduate programs in South America. The initiative highlights two facts: it was pioneer in introducing an educational perspective in human rights training, and although an optional class, it has been consistently chosen by students year after year .
This year’s course was held October 2-24 and the seminar was conducted by Ana María Rodino for the 11th time, in collaboration with the IIHR Educational Area. The 25 students came from five Latin American countries and are involved in teaching, the judiciary and public and civil institutions .
The seminar was enthusiastically received by the students who demonstrated their satisfaction with the innovative course and the applicability of the approach of human rights education for their professional lives .
The program, which has graduated eleven classes, has been directed by Fabián Salvioli, a member of the IIHR General Assembly and President of the UN Human Rights Committee .
