Seminar on sexual and reproductive rights of women in El Salvador and presentation of ethical-medical guide

San José, Costa Rica. On October 13, 2020, a virtual seminar on The Situation of Sexual and Reproductive Rights of Women in El Salvador, at which The ethical guide for medical attention of women who have obstetrical emergencias in El Salvador was presented, took place. The event, was convened by the IIHR, the Citizen’s Group for the Depenalization of Ethical, Eugenical and Euthanistic Abortion, and The International Projects Assistance Services, which is part of the New Human Rights Challenges: Promotion and Protection of the Right to a Clean Environment, Sexual and Reproductive Health and their Protection in Central America, sponsored by the Swedish Embassy in Guatemala since 2018.   

The participants were welcomed by the IIHR Executive Director, José Thompson, who was followed by Morena Herrera (of the Citizen’s Group) who spoke on the situation of women who were criminalized as a result of obstetrical emergencies in El Salvador and Larissa Arroyo Navarrete who described the relevant norms of the Inter-American System. Later,  Viviana Guerrero commented on the Ethical Guide and Claudia Martínez referred to the need to apply this tool in view of the challenges, in the Salvadoran context, of access and guarantee of the sexual and reproductive rights of women. The activity concluded with a plenary meeting.
