UNIORE evaluates May 5 elections in Panama

Panama City. The third mission of the Inter-American Union of Electoral Bodies took place August 19-21, 2019 in order to evaluate the arrangements being made for the May 5 elections in Panama, taking into account the results of the recent electoral reforms. The members of the mission met with authorities and staff of the Electoral Tribunal, specialists and representatives of civil society. They also received information on the Digital Ethical Accord, an initiative designed to avert inappropriate and counter-productive use of the social media and other technological platforms that might affect the decisions of citizens regarding the elections. 

The mission was comprised of Magistrates José Luis Vargas (Electoral Tribunal of the Judiciary of the Federation of Mexico), Wilfredo Penco (Vice President of the Electoral Court of Uruguay), Carmen Imbert Brugal (Central Electoral Board of the Dominican Republic), staff members Manuel Carrillo Poblano (Coordinator of International Affairs of the National Institute of Mexico) and Joel Lantigua (Director of International Affairs of the Central Electoral Board). Representing the Center for Electoral Promotion and Assistance (IIHR/CAPEL), the Executive Secretariat of UNIORE, was Sofía Vincenzi, its Coordinator
