Mexico City. On August 22, 2018, the Inter-American Union of Electoral Bodies (UNIORE) presented its report on the observation of the elections held July 1 in Mexico. The delegation of the regional body was comprised of Patricio Santamaría, President of the Electoral Service of Chile; José Thompson, IIHR Executive Director and Director of the Center for Electoral Promotion and Assistance (IIHR/CAPEL), Executive Secretariat of UNIORE, and Salvador Romero, Executive Secretary of the Project of Support to the Technical Accompaniment 2018.
Ms. Santamaria recognized the professionalism and technical expertise that was required for the election. Mr. Thompson, for his part, thanked the National Electoral Institute (INE) for the confidence shown that enabled the observation and Mr. Romero spoke of the pioneering initiative of the Mexican electoral bodies that reviewed the jurisdictional mechanisms during a prior mission.
The report was received by the Mexican electoral officials, including Lorenzo Córdova Vianello, President of the INE, and Héctor Díaz Santana, head of the Specialized Prosecutor for Electoral Crimes (FEPADE).
Reports of other international organizations were also presented at the event.
