UNIORE and Electoral Tribunal of Panama sign Agreement

Panama City. An Agreement of Understanding, which established procedures for observing the general elections of May 5, 2019, was signed on October 6, 2018 between the Electoral Tribunal of Panama and the Inter-American Union of Electoral Bodies (UNIORE).

The purpose of the Agreement is to “promote the formulation and exchange of experiences in electoral matters, under the framework of UNIORE, that would lead to objective technical recommendations and observations that would permit the Tribunal to strengthen the conduct of elections through the observation of voting, the vote counting and the consolidation of the results of the general elections of 2019 at the different steps by means of advanced missions, respecting the sovereignty of the State and the domestic legislation.”  

The Agreement was signed by María Elena Wapenka, President of UNIORE, and the President of the Electoral Tribunal of Panama, Heriberto Araúz. Acting as witnesses were Alfredo Juncá, Magistrate of the Tribunal, and Sofía Vincenzi, Coordinator of Operations of the Center for Electoral Promotion and Assistance (IIHR/CAPEL), Executive Secretariat of the regional body.
