IIHR/CAPEL technical visit to local elections in Tucumán, Argentina

Tucumán, Argentina. An international delegation, invited as part of the agreement between the Center for Electoral Promotion and Assistance (IIHR/CAPEL) and the Provincial Electoral Board (JEP) of Tucumán, made a technical visit to the provincial elections of June 9, 2019. The mission was comprised of Fernando Argüello (Supreme Electoral Tribunal of El Salvador), Reyes Rodríguez (Electoral Tribunal of the Judiciary of the Federation of Mexico), Yuri Beltrán (Advisor to the Electoral Institute of Mexico City), Renato Contreras (National Electoral Council of Colombia) and Waldir Sebastião de Nuevo Campos Junior (Vice President of the Regional Electoral Tribunal of Sao Paulo, Brazil). Also participating in the mission were Fernanda Diniz, Advisor to the Sao Paulo Tribunal, and Tasheena Obando, IIHR/CAPEL staff member.

During their June 7-9 stay in Tucumán, the group met with authorities and staff of the local electoral body, which was responsible for carrying out the election, in order to learn the details of the voting for governor, mayor, local delegates, representatives and council members. On election day, the members of the mission visited polling places in Los Aguirres, Famailla, Yerba Buena, Lastenia and Tafi Viejo. The mission will present the JEP a report with its observations and recommendations.
