San José, Costa Rica. The IIHR Inter-American Classroom hosted, from August 6-11, 2018, the XI Specialized Course for State Officials, entitled “Use of the Inter-American System for the Protection of Human Rights.”

The Course was inaugurated by José Thompson and Jorge Padilla, IIHR Executive Director and Coordinator of the Center of Resources and Studies for Education in Human Rights, respectively, and was comprised of lectures, a case study and a simulated hearing before the Inter-American Court of Human Rights regarding the supervision of compliance of a judgment.

The 67 participants, who worked in public institutions from almost all the Latin American countries, were instructed on the regional organs of human rights protection; learned how to employ the juridical norms and jurisprudence of the Inter-American System of Human Rights and the practical and theoretical elements of control of conventionality; were able to develop and reinforce channels of communication between State institutions and the regional organs and to exchange experiences.
