Organizational structure

General Assembly

The highest governing body of the IIHR is its General Assembly, comprised of 37 renowned human rights experts of the Americas, including the judges of the Inter-American Court of Human Rights and the members of the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights.

Board of Directors

The Board of Directors is composed of 10 members of the General Assembly. It is responsible for following up on the decisions adopted by the Assembly and supervising and evaluating the implementation of IIHR programs and activities.

Executive Directorate

The Executive Directorate is responsible for the implementation of programs, projects and activities, supported by the academic, technical and administrative staff.

The Executive Director is elected by the General Assembly and is responsible for the implementation of institutional policy and compliance with the mandate of the Institute.

The current Executive Director is José Thompson, who is Costa Rican.
